Just when you thought the mobile development industry had heard the last from BlackBerry, the company is getting a cash infusion thanks to a binding arbitration settlement. The arbitrator determined that semiconductor manufacturer Qualcomm must refund BlackBerry $814.9 million for overpaid royalty fees. The two companies had disagreed over whether Qualcomm’s royalty cap program applied to its agreement with BlackBerry.
Qualcomm said it “does not agree with the decision,” but it cannot appeal.
Apple is still embroiled in a similar licensing-related lawsuit with Qualcomm.
