Microsoft has announced that PowerShell Core 6.0, the first release of its open source cross-platform scripting language and command-line shell, is now generally available. It runs on Windows, macOS and several versions of Linux. Jeffrey Snover, Microsoft Technical Fellow and the father of PowerShell, tweeted, “This is the biggest and most important change we’ve ever made to PowerShell!”
PowerShell Core is based on .NET Core, the open source version of Microsoft’s .NET framework. Microsoft still also offers the standard version of PowerShell, which is based on the full version of .NET.
