Pew Internet has released the results of a new survey which finds that half of all U.S. adult cellphone owners have either downloaded a mobile app or have an app pre-installed on their phones. That’s an increase of 7 percentage points over the last survey in May 2010. When you look at all U.S. adults (not just those with mobile phones), 42 percent now own phones with apps installed.
The number of mobile phone owners who have downloaded an app to a phone has increased dramatically: up from 22 percent in September 2009 to 38 percent in August 2011. In the latest survey, 34 percent of the entire U.S. adult population had downloaded at least one app to a smartphone or a tablet.
