PayPal has announced that it will be holding a series of programming contests called Battle Hacks. The competition begins June 8 in Berlin, and the company will hold additional events in New York City, Tel Aviv, Miami, Moscow, Austin, London, Seattle, Barcelona and Washington, D.C.
Those who wish to participate must come to the designated site in each city and spend up to 24 hours building an app that benefits society and uses the PayPal API. “The application has to both incorporate the PayPal API and benefit the local community — anything from charity to improving traffic,” explained a PayPal spokesperson. “PayPal is encouraging developers to get creative with their applications.
The top team from each city will be invited to Silicon Valley for the “Battle Hack Finals.” The winning team will receive $100,000.
