Following the devastating typhoon which may have killed as many as 10,000 people, the Philippines is in need of programmers, designers, project managers and other IT types to help set up communications and tools to coordinate relief efforts. The Geeklist Corps of Developers is currently recruiting those who would like to help and is encouraging others to spread the word with the hashtag #hack4good.

Kat Borlongan, the initiative’s coordinator, said, “Right now telecoms are down in many areas and roads are blocked, hampering relief efforts. Emergency lighting is being installed to reopen airport runways and deliver emergency generators and Télecoms San Frontières are working with local telecoms companies to restore communications. Once communications are restored, requests for Rescue and Relief are expected to snowball.”
