Oracle Hopes Customers can Convince EU of Sun Deal

What do the Spanish bank BBVA, the British Atomic Weapons Agency, the British National Health Service, Sabre TSGTX.UL and Carnegie Mellon have in common?

Well according to a Reuters report today, representatives from each of these companies and governmental agencies are expected to testify before the European Commission tomorrow.

Oracle hopes their testimony will convince the commission that Oracle should be allowed to swallow Sun and MySQL whole without any compromise.

Customer support could help sway the EC, antitrust lawyer Silvio Cappellari from Arnold & Porter told reuters.

“If they have a convincing story to tell, this would certainly increase Oracle’s chances to get the deal cleared with little or even no concessions,” he said.

Opposing the $7 billion Oracle deal to purchase Sun will be Microsoft, Germany’s SAP and MySQL creator Monty Widenius.
