Oracle Asks Document Foundation Founders to Leave OpenOffice Council

Oracle is not happy with the OpenOffice council members who founded The Document Foundation and the LibreOffice fork of Oracle’s OpenOffice project.

Last week, during an online OpenOffice council meeting, the members of the splinter group were asked to vacate their places on the OpenOffice council.

Council member louis_to said that if the The Document Foundation “members do not disassociate themselves from” The Document Foundation “then they must resign by Tuesday.”

The exodus from OpenOffice is pretty significant. LibreOffice has backing from Google, Red Hat, Canonical and Novell. In fact, Mark Shuttleworth has said that future versions of Ubuntu will ship with LibreOffice rather than OpenOffice.

Techie Buzz has a story about the OpenOffice council meeting here, and you can view the complete transcript from the meeting here.
