Israeli open-source software company, GreenSQL, gets $1.5 million capital injection from Magma Venture Partners.
GreenSQL’s product is a database firewall. It’s supposed to prevent SQL injection attacks. SQL injections are malformed SQL commands that, if run, could be used for unauthorized access to a database or to bring down the server.
To prevent this, GreenSQL’s database firewall sits between the web server and the database. When a SQL statement comes through, GreenSQL software evaluates the SQL to see if it’s safe before passing it onto the database server.
GreenSQL’s software is open source, but founder Amir Sadeh told StartUpMania that the company will soon offer a premium product with support for Microsoft’s MS SQL Server.
The open source project began in 2007. The commercial GreenSQL started this year.
“Since the beginning of the year, tens of thousands of users have downloaded our software,” Sadeh told StartUpMania.
GreenSQL has seven employees.
