On Monday, Microsoft unveiled the next version of its Office software, and the suite includes a new feature of special interest to developers–an app store. Apps for Office will allow users to try and buy Office-related apps without leaving their applications. “We’re creating a market opportunity for developers,” said Microsoft’s PJ Hough. “This is a significant win for developers, and for our customers.”
To support the new app store, Microsoft is launching a new, “much smaller” API that will allow developers to write apps using HTML5 and JavaScript, as well as VBA. Interested developers can learn more about Apps for Office through the Microsoft Developer Network.
