Object Computing Will Take Over Grails

A company called Object Computing (OCI) has announced that it will now manage Grails. Pivotal had recently stopped supporting the open source Java development framework, leaving its future uncertain until Object Computing stepped in and hired several key Grails developers. “The Grails project is moving forward with the same technical leadership that it has always had, and OCI has been great about making sure that happens,” said Grails developer Jeff Brown. “We had a number of options for carrying the technology forward, and this relationship made perfect sense for everyone involved, so we all worked together to make it happen.”

The Apache Software Foundation had previously announced that it would take over Groovy, the JVM programming language related to Grails. Brown says that having the two projects under separate management “isn’t really as big of a deal as it might sound” because the two groups of developers have never been co-located.
