NPD: Apple Is Most Popular Smartphone Maker in the US

For some time, Android has seemed to be winning its fight with iOS, but a new report from NPD finds that Apple’s platform is gaining ground—at least in the US. Apple increased its share of the smartphone market from 35 percent in the fourth quarter of 2012 to 42 percent in the fourth quarter of 2013.

The number two smartphone maker, Samsung, saw its share increase from 22 to 26 percent of the US market. LG also increased its share slightly, but Motorola, HTC, BlackBerry and the others decreased.

For mobile development firms, the question of whether to target iOS or Android first continues to be complicated.
