Development of the Node.js open source JavaScript runtime is proceeding at a breakneck pace. The Node.js Foundation has released version 5 of the popular project only a month after it released version 4. Key features in the new release include support for version 4.6 of the v8 JavaScript engine, and support for Npm 3.3.6, which promises performance improvements.
Howevever, Node.js 5 likely won’t be around for long as it has only an 8-month support cycle. Node.js 6, due for release next April, will have a 30-month support cycle.
