Google has revised its developer policies for Google Play, and the changes seem likely to improve the app store experience for both developers and end users. Most notably, the new policy takes aim as “copycat” apps by forbidding “names or icons that appear confusingly similar to existing products.” In addition, the new policy requires in-app ads to be linked clearly to their apps and not to interfere with normal device operation. It also strengthens restrictions on spam and improves privacy requirements. Finally, it requires apps that bill by the month to allow users to finish out the month if they cancel their subscription before the month ends.
Mobile development pros have 30 days to update their existing Android apps to comply with the new policies. New Android apps must comply immediately.
