Google has released some new statistics about the state of Android fragmentation, and the good news for the mobile development industry is just three versions of the operating system now account for nearly all Android devices. Almost half of Android devices — 48.6 percent — are currently running Jelly Bean. Another 20.6 percent are on the slightly newer Ice Cream Sandwich, while 28.5 percent are on the older Gingerbread.
Very few users are on older versions of the platform like Froyo, which has 2.2 percent of users. In addition, Honeycomb, which was developed specifically for tablets, has just 0.1 percent of Android devices.
