Yesterday, Drizzle developers released build 1802 and the first official beta of the MySQL open source database server fork.
Improvements can be found in the drizzledump utility that allows easy migration from MySQL to Drizzle. There’s a better thread system and memory/session management and the addition of Sphinx-based documentation.
“This release is for a stand alone database server. A lot of the infrastructure for replication is there (with testing), but the big thing we want to hammer on and get perfect here is Drizzle7 as a stand alone database server,” Drizzle developer Stewart Smith said.
Drizzle was started by former Sun employee Brian Aker in 2007. He wanted to slim down MySQL and make it more appropriate for usage in Web applications and cloud computing.
