MySQL Community Keeps Pressure on EC Regulators to Stop Oracle Ownership

MySQL creator Michael “Monty” Williams does not want Oracle to own MySQL. He’s urging the MySQL community keep sending letters to European Commission regulators reject the Oracle acquisition of Sun.

According to a story in InformationWeek by Charles Babcock, Williams isn’t convinced Oracle will continue developing an open source version MySQL.

On his blog, Williams said that all of Oracle’s “10 points of commitment” expire after five years.

“After that period,” Williams wrote, “Oracle is free to do anything, including to stop developing an open source version of MySQL.”
