Google is making three big changes to its Google Play app store that could be good for mobile development pros. First, the company is doing more to promote Instant Apps. Announced last year, the feature allows users to try out apps without downloading them. Developers say it can dramatically increase user sessions.
Second, the company is cutting its share of app subscription fees in half for subscriptions that last longer than a year. Previously, developers with apps that required subscription fees had to hand over 30 percent of those fees to the store for as long as customers subscribed. Now, the fee decreases to 15 percent after customers have subscribed for 12 months.
Third, Google is starting a bug bounty program for popular Android apps. Managed by HackerOne, the Google Play Security Reward program will pay security researchers up to $1,000 for finding vulnerabilities in certain Android apps. That payout is in addition to any bounties paid by the app developer.
