Mozilla has announced plans to open a new app store called the Mozilla Marketplace. It will begin accepting app submissions at next week’s Mobile World Congress, with the store going live for end users sometime later this year. The Mozilla Marketplace will feature Web apps based on technologies like HTML5, JavaScript and CSS. In addition, Mozilla plans to release a number of APIs to assist developers.
Mozilla is also working on creating its own mobile development platform called Boot to Gecko (B2G). Smartphones based on B2G will also be capable of running apps from the Mozilla Marketplace.
