Google has removed 15 more malicious apps from Google Play. According to McAfee researcher Carlos Castillo, who first identified the malware, the apps pretended to be video players, games and anime content, but really stole names, telephone numbers and e-mail addresses from users’ contact lists.
Google recently announced that it would begin using new cloud computing tools to help it identify and remove malicious apps. However, this is the second time since that announcement that a researcher found malware that Google’s tools missed.
