More Developers Using Go Language at Work

A survey of users of the Go programming language has revealed that for the first time more developers are using Go for work than for personal projects. “In nearly every question around the usage and perception of Go, Go has demonstrated improvement over our prior survey. Users are happier using Go, and a greater percentage prefer using Go for their next project,” Steve Francia of Go wrote in the report.

Other key findings in the survey included the following:

  • The top use for Go is writing API/RPC services.
  • The biggest challenges of using Go are lack of dependency management and lack of generics.
  • 64 percent of Go users develop on Linux.
  • Visual Studio Code is the most popular IDE for Go development.
  • The most commonly requested missing Go library is one for writing GUIs.
