MongoDB, Inc. yesterday announced that the beta release of its native data visualization tool MongoDB Charts is now available on the managed cloud database-as-a-service solution MongoDB Atlas

“This means that Atlas users can now visualize their data and share with their team, without the need to install or maintain any servers or tools,” MongoDB senior product manager Tom Hollander wrote in a blog post announcing the release.

Atlas users can simply log into Atlas, select the Project with the clusters containing the data they need to visualize, then click the Charts link in the left navigation bar. “After a one-time step to activate Charts, you will be reading to start charting,” Hollander wrote.

The integration with Atlas makes it easy to add data sources from Atlas clusters without need to enter a connection URL.  “You’re also freed from the burden of managing users separately, with all Atlas Project members able to access Charts with their existing Atlas credentials provided they have Data Access Read Only role or higher,” Hollander added.

The latest release of Charts also adds several options for chart authors to customize their charts, including changing axis titles, colors and date formats. In the new year, MongoDB plans to add an embedding feature that will allow developers to create visualizations and embed them in external websites or applications.
