If you want to get a lot of people to use your mobile app, consider incorporating video—that’s the takeaway for developers from a new report by FreeWheel. The company says that, in 2012, 12 percent of all online video views originated with tablets or smartphones, an increase from just 2 percent the year before.
Breaking things out by platform, iOS users accounted for 60 percent of mobile video views, while Android devices accounted for 32 percent. In fact, Apple’s devices may be responsible for much of the growing popularity of mobile video. According to the report, 30 percent of the increase in mobile video viewing occurred around the time that Apple released the iPhone 5, iPad 4 and iPad Mini.
