Mobile development firms that haven’t made a privacy policy available to users will soon begin seeing fines from the state of California. Under a state law, developers must have privacy policies or they could face fines up to $2,500.
On October 30, California Attorney General Kamala Harris started sending out warning letters to app makers who didn’t have privacy policies. She gave them a month to comply with the regulations–and that month is now over.
Past surveys have found that as many as three-quarters of mobile apps do not have privacy policies. But now that California is cracking down on those who violate its laws, most experts expect that percentage to go down rapidly.
