A new report from Localytics delivered a mixed verdict on app retention. In the U.S. the number of users who opened an app 11 or more times climbed to 42 percent, a 3 percent increase, but global app retention fell from 39 percent last year to 34 percent this year.

Other mobile development insights from the report included the following:

  • 19 percent of U.S. app users abandon apps immediately.
  • China is a very difficult market with a 37 percent abandonment rate and an 18 percent retention rate (down from 27 percent last year).
  • 50 percent of North American users who receive push notifications from an app return to the app.
