At dotNetConf, Microsoft announced the release of Xamarin Studio 6.0, Xamarin for Visual Studio 4.1 and updated versions of various Xamarin SDKs. Xamarin co-founder Miguel de Icaza called it “Our biggest and best release of Xamarin Studio yet!” and added, “With a type system that is now powered by Roslyn, Microsoft’s open source .NET compiler platform, you will see a plethora of benefits including enhanced code completion, full C# 6.0 support and a new formatting engine.” The tools also now have better support for F# and a new OS X installer.
Xamarin is a cross-platform mobile development platform that allows developers to build iOS, Android and Windows apps with C# and other Microsoft technologies. Microsoft bought Xamarin earlier this year and open sourced some of its technology.
