At its Ignite event, Microsoft released a preview of Project Springfield, a cloud computing-based tool that combines fuzz testing with artificial intelligence. It enables automated testing while helping developers figure out why bugs occur. “Each time it runs, it gathers data to hone in on the areas that are most critical,” said the Project Springfield team. “This more focused, intelligent approach makes it more likely that Project Springfield will find vulnerabilities other fuzzing tools might miss.”

Microsoft says it has been using a very similar tool internally for about a decade. Interested developers can sign up for the preview on the Project Springfield website.
