Microsoft has announced plans to integrate its Azure Stack hybrid cloud platform with Azure Government, its cloud computing service for government agencies. The move should make it easier for agencies to set up an Azure-based hybrid cloud environment which complies with regulations that mandate some data be kept on-prem. It also meets the needs of some very specialized military environments. “Quite literally we’ve designed Azure Stack with the scenario of a submarine in mind,” Tom Keane, Microsoft’s head of global infrastructure for Azure, told Reuters.
The new integration could also pave the way for expanded hybrid cloud services for enterprises.
