Microsoft has announced a major reorganization. The company will now have three major engineering groups: Experiences & Devices, Cloud + AI Platform, and AI + Research.

The change does away with the former Windows and Devices group, and Terry Myerson, who led that group, is leaving the company. Rajesh Jah from the Microsoft Office will head up the Experience and Devices group, which will now incorporate Windows. Scott Guthrie will be in charge of the Cloud + AI Platform group, and Harry Shum will lead the AI + Research group.

“This reorganization clearly outlines Microsoft’s priorities—cloud, coupled with AI, and an improved experience for users of Microsoft’s applications,” Ed Anderson, research vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner, told eWEEK. “In the past, Windows was always the focus. This move reiterates the cloud-first priority that Microsoft has been stating for some time.”
