Microsoft has released a new Java debugging extension for its open source Visual Studio Code IDE. In a testament to Microsoft’s willingness to work with the open source community, the debugger works alongside a separate Red Hat extension that adds Java support (but not a debugger) to Visual Studio Code. The two extensions are available separately or bundled together in a new Java Extension Pack.
According to InfoWorld, “Microsoft’s plans call for enabling a modern workflow for Java, with more features and extensions planned going forward.”
