As part of its effort to open source the .NET development framework, Microsoft has announced the release of Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) under an open source license. WCF supports one-way and two-way communication over HTTP and TCP.

InfoQ notes, “WCF has a mixed reputation. While very easy to get started with, the learning curve has proven to be incredibly steep.”

WCF now has a repository on GitHub, and interested developers can contribute to the project.
