Microsoft Launches Minecraft AI Contest

Microsoft has launched a new contest called the Malmo Collaborative AI Challenge aimed at improving artificial intelligence (AI), more specifically at teaching AIs to work with humans. The contest is part of Project Malmo, which uses a special version of the game Minecraft to test AI algorithms.

The challenge requires teams of three participants to complete a mini-game within Minecraft. Their goal is to create an AI that “can learn to work with other randomly assigned players to achieve a high score in a mini-game within the virtual world.” The top three teams will each get $20,000, and any European winners will also be eligible for spots at the Microsoft Research AI Summer School.
