In the race for an early lead in the Internet of Things (IoT) market, Microsoft has joined forces with one of its oldest rivals—Linux. The company has become a member of the AllSeen Alliance, an IoT group founded by the Linux Foundation.
AllSeen is encouraging companies to standardize their IoT efforts around AllJoyn, an open source IoT framework originally developed by Qualcomm. More than 50 organizations have signed on to be a part of the alliance.
Industry analysts speculate that Microsoft could see its Xbox gaming system as a potential IoT hub.
