During the first day of its Build 2017 developer conference in Seattle, Microsoft made several announcements of interest to developers. First, the company said that it is halfway to its goal of having Windows 10 installed on one billion devices. It also has 100 million Office 365 customers, 140 million monthly Cortana users and 12 million organizations using Azure Active Directory.

In addition, the company announced that Visual Studio for Mac is now generally available. It launched a new database called Cosmos DB, and it promoted its cloud computing and artificial intelligence capabilities.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella summed up the theme of the event, saying, “So whether it’s precision medicine or precision agriculture, whether it’s digital media or the industrial internet, the opportunity for us as developers to have broad, deep impact on all parts of society and all parts of [the] economy has never been greater.”
