Former MySQL AB CEO, Marten Mickos, is back. He’s sticking with open source, but this time it’s the cloud Mickos wants.
As the CEO of MySQL AB, he built the scrappy open source company into a major player in the database arena. In 2008, Sun Microsystems but MySQL for $1 billion.
Mickos told InformationWeek’s Charles Babcock, “When I left Sun Microsystems a little over a year ago, I asked people what’s bigger than open source, and they said, ‘the cloud.’ For cloud computing to be truly successful, it must be built on open source.”
