Lotus Gets Open Source Alfresco Content Management

On Wednesday, Alfresco said that this spring IBM’s Lotus software will begin shipping with Alfresco’s open source content management system.

IBM is trying to compete with Microsoft’s SharePoint with their Lotus Quickr product. Their current content management software is FileNet, but it’s not cutting it when compared to SharePoint.

A Senior Analyst at The 451 Group, Kathleen Reidy, told Network World that Alfresco software is lightweight and easier to use than IBM’s Quickr and FileNet product offering today.

According to Network World, Alfresco President and CEO John Powell said, “Lotus Quickr users can manage, store and retrieve documents, and kick off transformations and workflows through Alfresco without having to change anything on the front end.”
