Linus Torvalds announced the official release of the Linux kernel 2.6.34, which includes a new filesystem called Ceph.

Ars Technica’s Ryan Paul described Ceph as a new distributed network cloud filesystem that is “designed for massive scalability, capable of managing petabytes of storage.”

But before you switch over your production servers, it’s worth noting that Ceph is a largely experimental and isn’t ready for prime time.
