Linux Foundation Supports Microsoft’s GitHub Purchase

Developers have had strong reactions to the news that Microsoft was acquiring GitHub. Now Jim Zemlin, executive director at the Linux Foundation and an influential member of the open source community, has come out in favor of the purchase. “I spent a good part of my career at the Linux Foundation poking fun at Microsoft (which, at times, prior management made way too easy),” Zemlin acknowledged. “But times have changed and it’s time to recognize that we have all grown up — the industry, the open-source community, even me.”

In other Microsoft news, the company announced at the E3 event over the weekend that it was purchasing several game development studios: Ninja Theory, Playground Games, Undead Labs and Compulsion Games.
