The vast majority of programmers who work on the Linux kernel are paid employees of companies like Red Hat, Novell, Intel, IBM and even Microsoft. But the Linux Foundation is reaching out to students and hobbyists who work on the open source operating system without getting paid.
To that end, the organization has put out a call for three hobbyist developers to attend the Linux Kernel Summit, which will take place in Edinburgh October 23-25. The Foundation’s Theodore “Ted” T’so wrote, “Since most top kernel developers are not hobbyists these days, this is your opportunity to make up for what we’re missing. As we recognize most hobbyists don’t have the resources to attend conferences, we’re offering, as part of the normal kernel summit travel fund processes, travel reimbursement as part of being selected to attend.”
