Several months ago, Leap Motion announced the Leap, a new motion control device for PCs, and since then it has experienced a flood of requests from developers who want to use the new technology. More than 26,000 developers have already expressed interest–15,000 of them in the first week alone. Those requests have come from developers in all 50 states and more than 150 countries, and about 1,500 requests have come from colleges and universities.

Leap Motion CEO Michael Buckwald said, “We’ve already seen developers propose exciting applications for the Leap that we hadn’t even imagined, and look forward to even more. We can’t wait for Leap users to experience the applications when the product ships in early 2013.”

The company is still taking requests from developers who would like to try out the device, and it’s also accepting pre-orders from customers.
