During the fourth quarter of 2014, 69.5 percent of smartphone sales in twelve key markets were Android devices, reported Kantar Worldpanel. Apple’s iOS is seeing declining market share, but remains popular with high-end users in the U.S. and Japan. Microsoft’s Windows Phone had 4.4 percent of sales and was particularly strong in Europe with 10 percent of sales there. BlackBerry sales continued to shrink, accounting for less than 4 percent of sales in every country tracked.
On the manufacturer side, the report said that Samsung is now facing tougher competition, particularly in China.
