JetBrains has announced the release of IntelliJ 12, the company’s first IDE that supports Java 8. In addition, the update offers an improved user interface and a speedier compiler. Because it is decoupled from the rest of the IDE, that new compiler will also allow developers to continue working while code compiles in the background.

In addition to the free community version, IntelliJ 12 comes in a $99 version for academic use, a $199 version for personal use and a $499 for commercial use.
