Database vendor Realm has published a new report which finds a sharp rise in Kotlin use in the mobile development industry. It said that 14.3 percent of Android developers now use Kotlin, up from just 5.1 percent a year ago. In addition, mobile development pros are rewriting 20 percent of existing apps in Kotlin.
“Since Google blessed Kotlin as an acceptable language on Android, which happened in May at Google I/O, Kotlin use has just exploded, ” said Paul Kopacki, VP of marketing at Realm. “We think by the end of next year, Kotlin will have eclipsed Java for Android apps.”
However, while other sources do report growing interest in Kotlin, they say the language has a long, long way to go to match the popularity of Java.
