On Wednesday, Apple made iOS 6 available for end users. The new mobile platform offers a number of features that have garnered praise. They include new call response options, a do not disturb feature, a VIP e-mail inbox, a shared photo stream, an iPad clock, Siri improvements, the ability to use FaceTime over cell networks, Passbook, more Facebook integration and the ability to use different signatures for different e-mail accounts. On the down side, the new Maps capabilities aren’t nearly as good as the Maps in iOS 5.
For the mobile development community, the biggest change is the redesigned App Store. The new design and the Facebook integration are a plus. However, the search results page now displays only a single app, which could make it harder for worthy apps to get discovered.
