Intel’s Moblin and Nokia’s Maemo Merge to Make MeeGo Linux-based Platform

On Monday, the Linux Foundation announced that it will host the Intel and Nokia’s new combined open source MeeGo project.

In a joint statement, Intel and Nokia said MeeGo “will be deployed across many computing device types – including pocketable mobile computers, netbooks, tablets, mediaphones, connected TVs and in-vehicle infotainment systems, and brings together the leaders in computing and mobile communications as the project’s backers.”

Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin said, “With MeeGo, you have the world’s leader in computing – Intel – uniting with the world’s leader in communications – Nokia – in a true open source project hosted at the Linux Foundation.”

“For developers,” Zemlin said, “they will have the power of the Qt platform across a multitude of devices and architectures giving them an incredible opportunity to innovate and reach users.”
