During her keynote speech at the Intel Developer Forum, Intel software chief Renee James announced that the company plans to release new HTML5 development tools. Although she didn’t offer a timetable, James said developers should “Stay tuned” for the release. She added that “It’s hard for developers to make money” in the current fragmented mobile market, but that HTML5 give devs the chance to “write once and run it on all platforms.”
James cited an Intel survey which found that 63 percent of mobile apps make less than $5,000 per month and a third only make $100 to $500 each month. The survey also revealed that about half of mobile development costs are marketing costs. More than three-quarters of those who download an app stop using it within three months.
