At the Evans Data Developer Relations Conference, Intel encouraged developers to build more applications that use touch interfaces. Although Windows 7 supports touch and many systems offer displays with touchscreens, neither developers nor users have shown a lot of interest in the new technology so far. However, Intel believes that could change with the introduction of Windows 8 and more ultrabooks with touchscreens.
“The opportunity for [touchscreen] ultrabooks essentially is to create new experiences,” explained Intel’s Scott Apeland. That could present a “huge volume opportunity,” he added.
