Open source database company Ingres Corporation announced its VectorWise for Linux product today.
According to Ingres, VectorWise is 10 to 70 times faster than traditional databases.
“Right out of the box, Ingres VectorWise lets us effortlessly plow through millions and millions of rows of data with seemingly infinite width and depth and without the need for new expensive hardware, complicated schemas, explicit indexing, pre-aggregation, or specially hand-crafted DBA-tuned SQL. The Ingres and VectorWise leaders and technologists have performed a miracle here,” said Warren S. Master, CTO at The Rohatyn Group in New York.
Marcin Zukowski of VectorWise said, “The VectorWise technology is unique in the database area in fully exploiting modern chip features introduced by industry leaders like Intel, something usually only achieved in video-editing software or games.”
And unlike the NoSQL trend, VectorWise takes advantage of the SQL standard, knowledge and skills.
