IEEE Spectrum, a magazine published by a technology industry group, has ranked Python number one in its list of the top programming languages for 2017. “Python has continued its upward trajectory from last year and jumped two places to the No. 1 slot, though the top four — Python, C, Java, and C++ — all remain very close in popularity,” the magazine said.
The report assigns each language a “Spectrum ranking” based on a complicated system created by data mining journalist Nick Diakopoulos. The top ten included Python (100.0 ranking), C (99.7), Java (99.4), C++ (97.2), C# (88.6), R (88.1), JavaScript (85.5), PHP (81.4), Go (76.1) and Swift (75.3).
