Researchers at IBM are working on building a cloud platform based on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). At the Design Automation Conference, IBM’s Jan Rellermeyer said the project could result in “the operating system of the future for both embedded systems and the cloud.” He added, “The question is how can we turn JVM into more of a cloud-type platform.”
The team has experienced some challenges related to scalability. However, they believe it will be possible to use JVM to provide services for mobile devices.
