IBM has released a new API for Quantum Experience. Launched last year, Quantum Experience is a cloud computing service that provides access to a 5 qubit quantum computer. Until now, developers who wanted to try out the service had to use a special quantum computing programming language, but the new API allows developers to write scripts in the language of their choice and to connect Quantum Experience to other systems and services.
“The API allows programmers to test more theories and lay the groundwork to scale up these larger systems. What we really want to do is work with the community to figure out what quantum computing looks like in the future when we have a larger number of qubits,” said Jerry Chow, manager of the experimental quantum computing group at IBM.
IBM also released a simulator for a 20 qubit quantum computer.
